In fact the puppy's tail starts to move faster, and it starts to bark louder and louder until you know for sure this is a happy puppy! The puppy's nose get cold to let you know that all is well. Make sure you are always petting and rubbing your puppy's belly or it will start to whimper and beg you for more love. Requires 3 "C" batteries and 3 button cell batteries (not included). I love it. So far we have not had any problems with the battery holder. The adults got a bigger kick out of it then the child (5 yr old). It takes some patience to get the little dog barking. You have to pet it rather hard and it worked better when it was lying on a flat surface. The tail really wags. The barking does get louder. The nose does get cold, which was my favorite part. The dog sneezes if you touch the nose too soon, which is a neat feature. I would not get it for a child who does not enjoy stuffed animals, but it is a nice change for those who do. 1 of 1 found this review helpful: Awsome Puppy!!, 2007-01-16 I bought this for my God Daughter for christmas since she has been wanting a puppy. She loved the fact that it got happy when she pet it, but got a little annoyed when it would whine when she stopped petting it. But overall this was proof that she was in love with having a pet, but not with the responsibility that comes along with it. They are soft and you don't notice the battery spot. You can turn them off at night so they can sleep quietly. Their little nose really gets cold! They are easy to figure out. My little ones like to kiss their pooch on the nose and he sneezes! They make good snuggly friends. 8 of 8 found this review helpful: Absolutely Fabulous, 2006-11-11 My daughters, ages 5 and 7, LOVE this toy. We've had it several months and it is still a favorite. It is durable and sturdy, and seems to have a nice long battery life. It is cute and cuddly for the most part -- it is a little bit heavy clunky around the middle where the "works" are, but not obnoxiously so. The fur and details are really high quality. We aren't in a position to have an actual dog at the moment and were hoping that our kids would be able to get a lot of pretend and practice value from this one. It has been terrific for them. We don't have any other battery-operated toys, since we prefer them to use their imaginations, but in this case the battery options just add a nice extra element to their play. They love to make the puppy bark and kiss them. It's the perfect size to sit in a little lap and be petted, or to lay down next to on the bed or couch for story time. The time-delay go-to-sleep option is nice because it means no one has to turn the toy "on" or "off" -- it is more realistic that way. We highly recommend this toy!
